The Fix & Go website for a gas appliance engineer, designed symptom-first and phone-first

Fix & Go: the website that put a gas engineer top of local search

The project

A website built to make the phone ring

Fix & Go is a one-man gas appliance service covering seven towns: boilers, water heaters and cookers, and a phone that needs to ring. We designed and built him a fast, custom Next.js website shaped around how his customers really search, wrote every word of it, and structured it to own the local searches for every service he offers.

What was the challenge?

One page cannot own every search

The templated site he started out with had done its early job, but it had become the ceiling: a single generic page with no room for a page per service, no structure for the searches that bring a tradesman his enquiries, and copy that did not speak the way customers describe a broken boiler.

The research told us the opportunity was bigger than a tidy-up. Across the searches that matter in his area, no genuine local competitor website ranked at all: the results were directories and lead-generation sites, which meant whoever built the right structure first would own it.

The symptom-first section of the Fix & Go website: boiler not heating, not igniting, losing pressure

How did we approach it?

Designed around a broken boiler

Nobody with a cold house searches for gas appliance servicing. They search for the thing in front of them, so the homepage leads with the symptoms in the customer's own words: boiler not heating, will not ignite, losing pressure, showing an error code, each answered in plain language that ends at the phone.

The site is phone-first everywhere: the number is one tap away on every screen, with a persistent call button on mobile. Behind it sits a deliberately small hub-and-spoke structure, one page per service with the service area woven through, capped rather than sprawling, so every page earns its place.

What did we build?

Fast, found, and quoted by AI

The site is fully static Next.js, so it loads instantly on the rural mobile connections his customers are actually on, with nothing to patch and nothing to break. Real Google reviews are built into the page, every service has its own written-from-scratch copy, and the site ships the files that make its answers easy for AI assistants to read.

It went live in August, and the searches that matter started answering with his name: first place for gas water heater repair in two of his towns within days, top three in others, and AI search summaries already paraphrasing the site's copy as the answer.

#1

Local search results for gas heater repair, days after launch

Within days of launch the site held first place for gas water heater repair searches in two of its seven towns, with top-three positions in others, and AI-generated search summaries already quote its pages as the answer. In a niche where no genuine local competitor website ranks at all, the site that explains the work best wins it.

Emma and Miles built my website and set up my Google Business page. They got everything done quickly and the site looks great. Since then I've been getting regular leads online - wouldn't have happened without them. Highly recommend!

From the studio

Build the site around the broken boiler

Nobody with a cold house searches for 'gas appliance servicing'. They type what is happening in front of them: it will not ignite, the pressure keeps dropping, there is an error code on the screen. Build the website around those moments, keep the phone number one tap away, and it does exactly what a tradesman's website is for: it makes the phone ring.
